Natural Remedies That Experts Approve

Sometimes we have the tools at home that help us live life the fullest.  If not try the produce aisles.  Here are just a few remedies that will bring relief:

To boost immunity.  Garlic has immune-boosting properties.  Minced or crushed one to three cloves and leave them exposed to the air for a few minutes.  This boosts a sulfur compound called allicin, which acts like an antimicrobial to kill viruses and bacteria.  Note:  at the very end of cooking add garlic because heating destroys allicin.

Stomach Flu.  Since we are coming upon flu season, we need to be proactive by adding this natural spice to meals.  I believe in adding ginger to our meals is one of the best ways to fight off nausea, vomiting and eases your stomach cramps and bloating.

To reduce Inflammation.

Oregano is a source of antioxidants which help reduce inflammation and soothe your stomach.

Ginger aids digestion, is highly anti-inflammatory, and protects against cancer

Onion:  Provides anti-inflammatory benefits and protects cells from oxidative stress.  Helps lower risk of certain cancers

Apples:  This antioxidant-rich fruit helps reduce inflammation and is linked to heart and lung health

Spinach:  Rich in vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, spinach protects against inflammation, oxidative stress, and cancer

Turmeric:  This powerful detoxifier and anti-inflammatory cleanses the liver and helps prevent many types of cancer

Who would think we can find the best remedies in our refrigerator or even pantry?  Check my website out for more blogs to help you become proactive instead of reactive to your daily lifestyle.

What’s Going on with Me?

Dear Readers,

I promised I would blog, but instead I have written a book called, “Enjoying Life Against all Odds, As a Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor.”  What on earth did I do? Me, a simple person just trying to enjoy life.  I stepped out of my comfort zone to write this book.  Only GOD knows…why

In our book I shared my experiences, I humbled myself to you my avid reader.  It is amazing that I finally completed something.  I am not bragging in the least bit but all I know is it had to be from GOD, Jesus Christ of Nazareth and the Holy Spirit navigating my thoughts, emotions, and memories.  I wake up some days just extremely exhausted, and struggle with fatigue.  I get into my scriptures and know that my Heavenly Father “ABBA” is carrying me.

I look upon my life as a miracle.  As I defecated my thought process upon paper, I had a WOW moment.  Really, I went through all that?  I know others are experiencing struggles, so I desire to spread hope and the gift of life-giving words to those who need it.  Times like these can be discouraging, especially with this COV19.  Restrictions in all aspects of our lives.  Going to the doctor’s office seems out of the picture as do video calls instead of in-person.  How can we take care of ourselves in the midst of all this chaos?

Today I am going to share about inflammation.  Inflammation is a contributor to our memory loss.

4 Signs of Systemic Inflammation

As scientists begin to understand the body’s complex systems better, a clearer picture of how silent inflammation can impact your health is emerging.

Here are four of the most common symptoms:

  1. Brain Fog: Unfortunately, many people start to believe that scattered thoughts and poor concentration are an inevitable part of aging—but they are not! Inflammation can often be the culprit.
  2. Cognitive Impairment: When the brain is inflamed, memory formation and recall can both suffer. Research has shown a link between cognitive impairment and the presence of neurological inflammation.
  3. Aches and Pains: Silent inflammation creates heightened pain sensitivity in the body, as well as common everyday aches and pains in joints and muscles. If your body feels sore and stiff, systemic inflammation may be to blame.
  4. Mood Issues: While neurotransmitter imbalances may be the primary cause of mood issues, recent research suggests that these imbalances may be related to inflammation in the brain.

While your symptoms may be mere annoyances now, your heart and brain could be at serious risk over time.

Fortunately, you can solve this problem naturally, quickly and with no side effects. We carry for your Immune Support and cellar restoration the following:

Today is the Day that You can Change!

Health isn’t just eating right it has to do with your whole being. Your mind, body and soul but most of all spirit. If we neglect our spirit, we get out of alignment. If we neglect our mind, we will go bonkers. If we neglect our bodies, we end up useless in our later years. Why is it so important to “take action” now instead of the tomorrows of life? As, we get into our early sixty’s our muscle tone starts to deplete, our minds need food if neglected our thought processes get displaced. We end up empty, we need to be challenged or even stretched. By, learning something new will help. How about your spirit? Your flesh takes over and your spirit is neglected because you are so focused on your aches and pains. You overlook the little things that lead to major issues as we get older. How do we change? You have a choice. Do you want to enjoy and live life to the fullest in your elder years? Or do you want to sulk and play the Victim Card.

Here are some helpful hints:

  1. Find time for yourself when stress gets high.
    a. Schedule a “Me Day” once a week for a massage, facial, fishing, hunting. Your fav hobby.
    b. Get up, and away from your desk. Go for a walk outside.
    c. Breathing exercises
  2. Know when to ask for help. You are not a Superhero.
    a. At work don’t build your life on high demands of others. Yes, we need to make our employer shine so they can bring in customers. People are more creative when they are taken care of within the work force. Productivity will increase. If not, you will burn out which will cause health issues. At work you are replaceable, but if you solve issues of work burn out you will be considered an asset.
  3. In your family you are not replaceable. You are the rock and foundation.
    a. Schedule an appointment with your spouse each week. Do not cancel
    b. Schedule an appointment with your children. Date your children. Each child is different so make it special for each one. Even if it is only 1-2 hours
    c. Plan Family meetings to make decisions
    d. Plan a Family Vacation, Family Holiday’s, Family time
    e. Call your parents once a week if long distance. If not make it a Family day to visit.
    f. Stop forcing your children to do what you want them to do. Find their talent and then develop it. Their passion is their success and yours. This will help you develop a stronger bonding with your child.
    g. Stop and listen. Listen to your spouse. Listen to your children. Listen to your parents. Listen to friends.
  4. Yearly Physical
  5. Dental Check-up
  6. Eye Examination
  7. Hearing Examination
  8. Sleep 8-10 hours a day. Your body needs to rest and recover from the stress of the day. If you have a baby sleep when they sleep.
  9. Exercise. Find something you love to do. Bike, hike, walk, run, swim, go to your local gym, or better yet you can buy your own equipment and work out at home
  10. Sun, you need 10 or more minutes a day of sunlight. It is a natural D3 dosage
  11. Go to Church. Find a local church you feel comfortable in. You might need to Church shop and it is okay. Sunday is a day to celebrate the life you live. A day to be grateful and enjoy fellowship with others.
  12. Socialization. Find like minded people that will support you and your family.
  13. Volunteer. Looking beyond ourselves is important to know we are part of a community. We were created to help each other.

Wisdom is from the choices we make in life. Wisdom is the key to success in life. Once we realize that we are beautifully made, and we have a journey to fulfill. Change will take place. Personally, I chose a GOD First life, Family Second, Career Third with a twist of Exercise. Yes, what I share seems like common sense, but do we walk the walk and talk the talk.? “Taking action” will make a difference in “Enjoying and Living Life to the Fullest.” What is your excuse for not “taking action”?

Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor Symptoms

geralt / Pixabay

My name is Karen Menz. I am a Traumatic Brain Injury survivor and desire to share my insight of what I experienced with my mind, body, soul and spirit. As I publish other blog post of how I reacted and how I overcame all odds, I do hope to get some feedback.

The following information is from my own experience. It is not medically proven, but with research I believe they will find some common factors.

Identifying trauma to the brain is essential so you can receive treatment as soon as possible. Head trauma can go unseen to the human eye. It is not visibly seen like a broken arm or a twisted ankle. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is when you have a mild or severe head injury. As a result of the brain being bruised, it can become swollen, causing severe pressure and pain. The swolleness is a result of the brain being bruised. This is a possibility of why; some people experience a state which is called comma. I believe that the pain is so extreme that a person would go insane if they were awake.

Here are some Traumatic Brain Symptoms I experienced:

  • Vomiting
  • Difficulty tolerating bright lights
  • Leaking cerebrospinal fluid from the ear or nose
  • Bleeding from the ear
  • Speech difficulty
  • Paralysis
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Numbness of the body (I experienced it in my hands and all over

Additionally, here are several other symptoms that I personally experienced:

  • Dizziness
  • Equilibrium lack of balance
  • Severe Headaches
  • I also experience Hypervigilance
  • Memory Issues

I would love to hear your feedback!  Are you a traumatic brain injury survivor?  What were some of your symptoms?

How Seniors Can Safely Battle the Bulge

qimono / Pixabay

If you’re like many older Americans, you’ve seen the numbers on the scale creep up along with the candle count on your birthday cake. Today, that trend means more than a quarter of Americans age 65 and older are obese and many more are overweight, according to recent reports.

Although gaining weight isn’t an inevitable consequence of getting older, there are clear physiological reasons most people put on pounds as they age. Everyone naturally loses muscle mass over the years, which leads to a slower metabolism. However, seniors can reverse age-related muscle loss and even build new muscle through exercise.

Seniors Need a Different Approach

Since weight loss can come at the expense of bone mass or muscle, seniors shouldn’t rely on the scale to measure success when they’re trying to trim down. Instead, older people should focus on fat loss by tracking inches instead of pounds. Trimming body fat could also make everyday activities easier and help prevent or control heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Such chronic conditions become more common as people age, which is one reason experts say seeking advice from your doctor before beginning a new exercise or eating plan is especially important for older adults. Your healthcare provider can evaluate your overall health and offer suggestions on easing into a plan with appropriate activities, according to an article in Prevention. For instance, if you’ve developed arthritis, swimming, walking, and other low-impact activities are probably a better fit than aerobics and running.

Exercise is Still Important

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend adults age 65 and older get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week, which could include brisk walking or swimming. The CDC also advises older adults to engage in muscle-strengthening activities that work every major muscle group at least two days each week. Including resistance training into your workout routine will boost your body’s metabolism, improve balance, and help preserve and build bone and muscle mass.

But strength training doesn’t have to mean pumping iron at a fitness facility. Indeed, many effective exercises, including wall push-ups, leg raises, and chair dips, use body weight for resistance. Once you’re ready to add more challenge, you can still work out at home with the help of some simple exercise equipment.

Home gyms outfitted with basic equipment have the advantage of being both affordable and accessible. You can stock a home gym without breaking the bank by investing in gear such as dumbbells, resistance bands, or an exercise ball. Having equipment on-hand will make it easier to find time for fitness. However, if the idea of putting together your own program seems overwhelming at first, a growing number of personal trainers work with clients in their own homes. There are also a variety of videos available online, including many designed specifically for seniors.

Dealing with Diet

As you incorporate more physical activity into your life, talk to your doctor about diet as well. Getting the right nutrients is critical at any age, but it is especially important for seniors striving to slim down. Your doctor may recommend that you increase your intake of lean protein to help stave off muscle loss or build muscle mass as you get more fit. But that doesn’t mean adding more calories to your diet. The key is making calories count.

For instance, experts recommend cutting down on processed carbohydrates and saturated fats in favor of lean protein and other nutrient-rich foods like vegetables and whole grains. A balanced eating plan packed with protein will give you the energy you need to exercise and has the added advantage of making you feel more full. An eating plan that shuns sugar and saturated fat will also keep your heart healthier and help prevent or manage diabetes.

So, while trimming down requires effort, exercise, and eating right, it is possible to avoid putting on pounds — and losing muscle mass — as you age.
